1. Introduction

Otaku Quiz LLC, an Ohio limited liability company (“OtakuQuiz,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have when you use OtakuQuiz — our anime trivia quiz website and apps at otakuquiz.com (the “Service”).

By using the Service, you acknowledge this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the Service.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only the information needed to run the Service:

  • Account information. Your email address and the authentication credentials used to sign in and secure your account. Passwords are never stored in plain text. If you sign in with Google or Discord, we receive the email address and basic profile identifier that those providers share with us.
  • Profile information. Your display name (username), the age range you confirm at the age gate, and your birth year, which we use to enforce the 13+ eligibility rule.
  • Gameplay data. Your quiz answers and scores, XP, rank, streaks, badges earned, coin balance, league and duel results, and the cosmetics you own.
  • Sign-in and security logs. Limited records such as authentication events that we keep to operate the Service, keep you signed in, and prevent fraud and abuse.

The Service does not currently include any paid features, advertising, or third-party analytics. We do not collect or store payment card details.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create your account and authenticate you when you sign in.
  • Run the quiz: calculate scores, XP, ranks, streaks, badges, coin balances, leagues, duels, and the cosmetics you have unlocked.
  • Apply the age gate and serve content appropriate to the age range you confirm.
  • Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Service, and prevent fraud and abuse.
  • Send you important account and service messages (for example, sign-in confirmations and password-reset emails).
  • Comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us operate the Service, and only as needed for them to perform their function:

  • Supabase — authentication and database storage. Your account, profile, and gameplay data are stored here.
  • Vercel — hosting and delivery of the website and apps.
  • Google and Discord — only when you choose Google or Discord sign-in. Those providers authenticate you under their own terms and share with us the limited profile information needed to create or access your OtakuQuiz account.

These providers are bound by their own privacy and security commitments and process your information on our behalf. We may also disclose information when required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of OtakuQuiz, our users, or others; and, if OtakuQuiz is ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may transfer as part of that transaction.

5. Cookies and Local Storage

We use cookies and similar browser storage to keep you signed in and to keep the Service working. Authentication relies on session cookies set by our login provider; without them you cannot stay logged in.

We also use your browser's local storage (“localStorage”) to remember on-device preferences — for example, your sound/mute setting and guest play state — so the Service behaves the way you left it. This data stays on your device and is not, by itself, used to identify you. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings, though some preferences may reset if you do.

6. Advertising and Analytics

The Service does not currently serve advertising and does not include any third-party advertising or analytics software development kits (SDKs). We do not currently collect advertising identifiers such as Apple's IDFA or Google's Advertising ID.

If we introduce advertising or analytics in the future, we will update this Policy and describe the partners and identifiers involved before or at the time those features become active.

7. Data Retention

We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account (see Section 8), we delete or anonymize your personal information, except where we are required to retain certain records by law or need them to resolve a dispute, enforce our agreements, or maintain the security and integrity of our systems. Aggregated, de-identified statistics that cannot identify you may be kept indefinitely.

8. Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from within the Service. On the web, open Settings; in the mobile app, open Profile. The flow shows a permanent-deletion warning, asks you to reauthenticate to confirm it is really you, processes the deletion, shows a completion state, and then automatically signs you out.

If you cannot sign in, you can also request deletion from our public deletion page at /delete-account, which includes instructions and a request path for users who cannot access their account.

When deletion completes, your personal information is deleted or anonymized. Two categories of limited data may be retained: (a) anonymized security and audit records that we keep to protect the Service and other users, and (b) records of any promotional Founder Pro slot you may have claimed. Founder slots are permanently consumed when used; they are never reused or reassigned, so a record that a slot was taken may persist even after your account is deleted.

9. Your Rights and Choices

Subject to applicable law, you can ask us to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and you can object to or restrict certain processing. The fastest way to delete your data is the in-app deletion flow described in Section 8. For any other request, email us at otakuquizllc@gmail.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law.

Depending on where you live (for example, California, the EU, or the UK), you may have additional statutory privacy rights. We honor those rights and you can exercise them using the same contact email above.

10. Children's Privacy (Under 13)

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. During sign-up, our age gate — enforced in the app, in the server action that handles sign-up, and in the database itself — blocks account creation by anyone who indicates they are under 13.

If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it. Parents or guardians who believe a child under 13 has provided us information may contact us at otakuquizllc@gmail.com and we will promptly remove it.

11. International Users

OtakuQuiz is operated from the United States, and our service providers may process and store information in the United States and other countries. If you use the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.

12. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information against loss, theft, misuse, and unauthorized access. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data and to limit access to it.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the Service. Continued use of the Service after an update takes effect means you acknowledge the revised policy.
